Your characterisation of the Chinese public does not make it seem more sympathetic, quite the reverse: it makes them seem petty and spiteful, lashing out at a population which is better educated and more prosperous than them, one unwilling to suffer under the yoke of the CCP as the majority have been indoctrinated to do. Why not let Hong Kong be independent? What moral claim does mainland China have to the territory over the people who live there? If China is so superior and resents Hong Kong then they are better off without it. |

None of which changes the facts that China owns and shares a land border with HK, China is 200x bigger than HK, and might makes right.
