As is the case of many places in Washington State, the cities name comes from pacific coastal tribes.

Specifically The Puyallup Tribe.

Seattle, Tacoma, Rainier, Sequim, Nisqually, Samammish, Snoqualmie, Skykomish, Snohomish, Tillicum, etc
