I think we are on to something here. I think it is a fundamental psychological reason why many car enthusiasts love older cars. The feedback and vibrations you get from revving the engine, a big stick shift, the pedals sometimes long range. It's why we have these anti-Tesla people occupying the super charge stations.

I was disappointed that the latest Nissan Leaf, which used to be the cheap electric vehicle option with only the necessities, has now bumped the price up and added all sorts of luxury features like auto-dimming rear view mirror, rain-sensing wipers, heated seats, climate control, and an "intelligent mobility" system.

All I care about is cost, space, reliability, road noise, and range. And physical buttons.
