Wouldn't it similarly have issues with the various desktop UI logins? Or do these all use systemd-logind?

The quoted paragraph says it uses a PAM module to unlock it, and PAM is independent of systemd.

The ones that don't use systemd-logind can be safely ignored because they aren't modern, or compatible with the modern Linux ecosystem.
