It's a matter of personal taste, of course. But yes the absence of lyrics, the long-running tracks (that are usually blended so there's no break), the pattern-based yet evolving structure and the upbeatness... These are all things that help me "get lost into code". It helps push out distractions and it's like a canvas in my mind onto which I can load up all the abstractions I'm working on, the mental equivalent of pulling lots of papers out of my bag and spreading them onto my desk. The funny part is this kind of music makes my mental "desk" feel a lot larger and somehow allows me to work on more complex problems. |
