Anyone has experienced the same frustration?

I've experienced the same feeling that new things often aren't all that new. I wouldn't characterise it as frustration, though. For me, it's more liberating: it frees to me to concentrate on what I'm trying to build, not how I can build it.

I no longer care whether I am using the latest this or greatest that according to anyone else. Sometimes I still learn new tools or new ways of using tools as I go along, and I still find that interesting. Other times I don't, because I already have what I need. Either way, what I choose to use is a means to an end.

In short, my interest has mostly risen above implementation details. I prefer using good tools and techniques to bad ones, but any suitable good ones will do. What matters more is what interesting, useful or simply enjoyable things I can make with them.
