Technology takes civilisation backwards? It's certainly a widely held idea, also held by extremists like Green Anarchists for example (and the Unabomber). If you look at it from a small enough lense there is truth there but if you widen your view you can see that someone's delusions also have truths. The reality is more messy than we like to think about.
