Having grown up without a car in a country with good public transport, I never had trouble vacationing to beaches and parks, visiting faraway families, or pursuing work in faraway places (well that last point didn’t apply to me, but certainly did apply to e.g. my parents). Now, having lived in the U.S. for many years, I still hate driving, but I’m basically crippled if I don’t drive. |

Also society shifted, cars meant larger but further shopping centers, and job areas.
