On that auto-immune topic, this reminds me of the Hygiene hypothesis which basically assert immune issues as a result of too much cleanliness (over simplified version). "The hygiene hypothesis states that early childhood exposure to particular microorganisms protects against diseases by contributing to the development of the immune system.
