I'd like to emphasize #4. I hate people that are hired because the manager liked them. My husband falls into this trap all the time. Hiring "nice" people, instead of the best team members.

A job isn't a friendship, though it's nice if people who you work with are your friends. Friendships also make it harder to quit or fire people.
