Agreed, mostly. Riak was used in one of the first implementations of AT&T Messages (Web) as a secondary-index and key-value store. It performed so horribly that the whole thing ended up being rewritten using Oracle. The truth is, Riak was designed for basic key-value storage. Everything else they added on worked pretty badly, especially their javascript integration. All that being said, I do not blame Erlang for Riak. I blame Basho. Their support was clueless, and their platform simply didn't perform as advertised. |
