Medically there are policies in various countries that differ on the term 'dead' or 'clinically dead'. Various places have different standards of dead. This has a huge effect on organ donation rates. For my medical emergency thank god I live in the US or my organs would have been donated already. some places may have a policy for either 'respiratory arrest or cardiac arrest after x period' to be considered clinically dead. If I had been in one of those countries my organs would be in many different people's bodies. I thank god every day that I was born in the US. |
