Antidepressants are indeed effective, but those NNT numbers are based on outcomes (i.e. depression scores) that are more subjective and far more modest than the outcomes used to calculate NNT for things like aspirin or antihypertensives (cardiovascular events and/or death). I don't think they should be compared directly compared in that manner. The NNT for antihypertensives to lower blood pressure is essentially 1, after all. |
