Is baffles me, 11 years after the introduction of iPhone people are still asking the same question.

Why do these people complain and ask if they didn't want to know the answer?

exactly, most ppl keep forgetting the additional tax. esp US pricing tends to be pre-tax. yes tax-free states not withstanding.
