Yes. It is ok. I hate that we've made it a norm to expect everyone to have the same hobby -- exactly the thing you do at work, and it better damn well be a hobby that you can monetize. Some people code and live on the MeetUp circuit when they're not coding. I do those things on rare occasion, but I've got a wife, a small child, and other hobbies. I like that this article reminds all of us to not normalize overwork. That said, it seems anti-hustle is becoming the new hussle, and yes, it's ok to code on your own as well if you enjoy it, want to learn, etc. You just shouldn't HAVE to. |
