I was just thinking, why don't they install a steel beam at the same height as the maximum allowed, like 11foot8?

Obviously it would be set much farther back than theirs.

Seems like a simple solution. Split the beam in the middle with hinges on left and right. Allow left and right beams to travel a bit but not too far.
