The latency is copper to your home. Dial ups are as fast as broandband but throughput low.

You forget about the decoding tone signals and telephone exchange load. Long distance calles have a very big latency for a reason.

You might want to do some googling, that is absolutely not true for a few reasons that are not about throughput.
