Ask HN: Where to learn about industries and markets?

I'm interested in recommendations and resources to learn about different industries and markets in the US.

Currently I feel the information that I ingest has a low-signal to noise ratio.

Some podcasts, documentaries here and there give small tidbits. Financial articles tend to stay very high-level and are usually aimed just for investing.

In someways I'd love some encyclopedic-like dry reading that is packed with information.

Side note: am a student so can't go work in an industry to learn about it yet.
