This blog post is from 2005 and very outdated. A lot has changed in Mac OS X regarding Active Directory and its configuration.

To join a domain, you open up System Preferences, click Accounts, and then Login options. "Network Account Server" is what you want.

Don't bother integrating Workgroup Preferences and all that in AD, it's flakey as crap. We can't even get Apple engineers to get it running reliably.
