Getting caught up in the freedom of speech question is folly. In context it reads as a not-so subtle dismissal of racism. I’m not even questioning the right to free speech. But when the first response to platforms removing white nationalist content is about “just wanting to have a conversation,” people of colour tune out. Freedom of speech is a valid concern, but I think in this instance it belongs further back in the sprint queue. In regard to comments concerning why it only addresses white-nationalism, understand that these statements are made in the context of North America’s on-going flirtations with white nationalism going back 300 years. It’s not an easy pill to swallow and speaks little about individuals regardless of colour. |
