The effects of buildings on our lives are more than we think. We live over 50% of those time we spent in commercial buildings. According to a study, the next generation will be an ` Indoor Generation` and that makes much more important to make the buildings a part of our lives. The difference between today and a century ago is that We expect much more from the buildings. We want those buildings to be a part of our lives. We want to connect and feel the building. As Winston Churchill once said, “We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us.”
A smart building can help us to optimize our comfort levels in buildings. The automatic open and close HVAC systems, they open and close lights according to certain schedules. But is that enough? The problem is that smart buildings depend on human interaction. As long as we update the set points, we change the schedules smart buildings can be the technology for making our lives more comfortable and efficient. But we are living in the 21st century and the time we consume to optimize the building's technologies is not efficient anymore.
We need to see the buildings as living ecosystems which must generate data from inside of the building. Without the data which is generated throughout the building can make the buildings much more comfortable, sustainable and efficient. But that is not enough we need to integrate AI so that the data is used automatically by the building itself to operate its HVAC and lighting system. It is a very thin line between being smart and being Intelligent. We can not continue to use a smart building technology which was invented 50 years ago and didn't change too much yet. We need to leave the operation of the building to real-time data and AI so that we can focus on much more important things. Agree or Disagree? |
