Ask HN: Project managers – your best and worst experiences

I've worked with product, content, engineering and marketing teams. I've seen some petty & irritating project managers, and some very good ones. I still struggle with seeing their use in some cases, when experts can make a much better case for themselves. What is your experience with PMs and how do you handle the idea of PMs presenting your work without you?
