I'm on your team, but a lot of people seem to be happy running, say, the HotSpot JIT compiler in production, so I think it's probably fine for most people. At a certain level of scale you're running code you didn't write, anyway (some mix of open-source code and code from previous team members) and having exact source with exciting surprises you've never seen before isn't going to save you from getting woken up at 4 AM. Though it might make it easier to fix the problem. |
