Why is "scientists" the name of the group?

That seems to be an appeal to authority. This group is making an ethical argument, not a scientific one.

Which probably why without “supervision or meaningful human control” is their criteria.

Is a security guard with 20 camera controlled turrets using facial recognition to choose targets "supervised" ?

Scientists, as a group, are a moral authority. They're not the only authority, but they represent a generally respected tribe of intellectuals.

The title doesn't say "science calls for."

I know I'm interested in hearing what a broad group of scientists think about non scientific questions.

Because the story would get zero consideration if it were "ethisists".

If the guard is necessary to pull the trigger, then it's supervised. If the ADS has a list of approved faces, or is told not to shoot people with an IR tag, then you get into a fun grey zone
