Sorry if I missed your point, but I fail to understand the irony here. As far as I can tell, their concern is reasonable if you take in account that a new influx o high paid employees might drive real state prices up (which in fact could benefit some people) making rents skyrocket.

First off, some of those jobs will be available to them. Secondly, having high paid people around patronizing the other businesses in the area will help them and their employees and families.

All you need to do is look at communities across America where the big good-paying employer folded up and left town. It's a disaster for those communities, not a boon.
