Ask HN: What lessons were most valuable to you as a new grad in the tech sector?

In about a year and a half, I'll have my B.Eng in EE (w/ focus on MATLAB/Python-based DSP/AI courses, and co-op work terms incl. a research internship in a computer vision lab). I'd like to think I've got at least a little self-awareness -- what I've learned in the bubble of academia probably isn't all that reflective of what things will be like once I'm working with a degree under my belt. But, you don't know what you don't know, eh?

I'd love to hear any thoughts you think might help make the transition a little easier. I'm sure I'll need to learn many things the hard way, but. I figure it wouldn't hurt to try and prepare myself mentally by listening to the "hard way" experiences of other folks. Thanks! :)
