Global cooling was the dominant theory from the time investigation of greenhouse gases began in the late 19th century up until the late 1970’s.

While the Venus-like future of Earth is entirely possible, there seems to be far more evidence of planets with damaged atmospheres becoming too cold / losing entropy.
