Changing the UX for URLs in a browser that has overwhelming market share is going to change how people think about and assess the identity of websites they visit. Over time, it could make other browsers feel less familiar, old fashioned, and maybe even shady for most people. It may end up improving security for some (we'll see), but it may also improve the security of Chrome's market share (whether that's the motivation behind the move or not). |
