I get what you are saying, but if used everything I would like to use I'd spend maybe a quarter of my paycheck every month. On random subscription things. Everything is subscription based and feels like I have to pay separate subscriptions for every bus I take, you know

That just means subscriptions might usually be too expensive, not that the model has some intrinsic issues.
Budgeting is "being an adult 101"...

You cannot get "everything you would like", that's life.

In the ad-funded internet, you really can get everything you like; you can even block ads if you don't want the inconvenience. What this discussion is really about is whether and how long this will dry up the supply of good content or replace it with bad.
