Android is not in any way open in the same sense as the Linux Kernel is, for instance. Google is the main contributor, and they tend to contribute in massive chunks, primarily when a new version drops. It's more akin to MySQL's open source edition, where in no way do you know what the core team is really planning or doing until they pull a shocker. |
