Not sure why I'm engaging this... I think it was allowed because that knowledge of the shortcut is ubiquitous enough that it is understood by most everyone. I imagine the offices at the times use Macs. I'd also argue that "the bulk of the machines in the world" run unix-like operating systems by no small margin. It's true though that for most of the past few decades 'Ctrl+F' would make more sense, and it still remains an interesting editorial decision. |
