Expert systems routinely outperformed experts, for sure. The AI winter that killed them was brought on by political decisions taken by people who didn't really understand the field. Btw, "Intelligent Systems" is such a funny little expression. Basically, it was used by AI researchers during the 80's AI winter to be able to get funding for their work; because they wouldn't get any if they called it what it was, AI. |
