TIL there's a separate term for the male in this case. Looking it up, it appears the distinction between fiancé (for the man) and fiancée (for the woman) has been falling out of style. This isn't helped by the fact that the distinction in spelling is, apparently, taken directly from French and that both words are pronounced the same way. |
