I've made this point before; there are 5 PR people for every reporter in the US.

That and the fact that various parts of the 'expert class' has largely discredited itself; from the replication crisis to the death of physics as a field .... we don't need to blame bots; the trust level is low.

And the PR people are, in general, far better paid.

Physics is not dead...
I can't vouch for its veracity (bit ironic), but I heard there's 10 lobbyists for every politician in Brussels. Or at least some depressing number.
Authority doesn’t scale the way some would like. The ramifications are far reaching.
