Yeah, this thread is a bit out of date. Those southern counties bring in hundreds of millions through a combination of bedroom households (people who commute into the northern suburbs or into Milwaukee) and tourism.

Go take a look in the marinas in the counties between Milwaukee and Chicago. A lot of Big City money floating in those communities (and in condos/houses along the lakeside).
