I don’t understand why gmail ties their functionality to skins so much in gmail. This is the third time they’ve forced a UI change for no functional reason, just that they wanted easier maintenance. I really got bugged in 2011 when they got rid of their terminal theme [0]. I don’t think this is a UI issue, I think it’s just poor design where a skin would somehow not perform well.
