The chairman has the power to appoint members of the board, the board has the power to fire the CEO. So someone who's both chairman and CEO is virtually impossible to fire. The combination of removing Musk as Chairman and adding two independent directors means there's a slim chance that he could eventually be fired – more likely, it means that Musk will be held more accountable to the board. |
