IMO (and only my opinion, others my differ, and I'd be curious other thoughts), discipline isn't something you just pick up off a shelf and suddenly click. Some people have systems for their routines. Even if it's "I'm not gonna take a break until I check off these five todo items" or "I'm gonna work on this project for 40 minutes, and take a break exactly at 40 minutes" (ala the Podomoro technique, for example). I view discipline as something you don't just start having one day, you make deliberate, conscious, and active choices to maintain a regimen (disciplined) or you don't and you put things off (undisciplined). Like my old man said: "discipline is when you do the things you have to do today so you can do the things you want to do tomorrow". |
