I don't think the CFM56 is a good analogy here. It does not appear to have been designed to fit the bolt pattern of a Cesna 172. The main thing the x86 instruction set has going for it, is backwards compatibility. (Including the fact that there are a lot of highly optimized CPU designs around that instruction set.) |
