I don't like the name, I don't like the fact I have to sign up for every group, every group has its own layout, which is confusing and I just don't get the whole idea behind it. You don not have to do that at all. The point of federation is that you sign up on one instance and can follow and communicate with people on practically every other instance from that single account. Think about how email works.
