For most AWS stuff, "E" stands for "Elastic".

My favourite AWS naming was when E became EC2, as in ECS.
ECS is Elastic Container Service.

Which is good, otherwise ECS Fargate wouldn't have made a lot of sense.

I always thought it should have become E3CS. I recall there's some old lisp manual that followed this kind of naming scheme.

Sure but what does that mean.
Variable (i.e. elastic) capacity. That is, scalable, adaptive, "cloud", whatever you want to call it.
