There's several browser plugins that work that way, I think the main obstacle is you need everyone on it. also that theres not a lot of activity spread across the whole web, resulting in stale discussions. Google reader I think had this social thing built into it. It wasn't just an RSS reader. |

That was the basic decision of making hyperlinks work one way, instead of two way like it was envisioned by others, eg Ted Nelson's Xanadu.
