It’s common for people to point to exceptions or outliers as a demonstration that a given statement is false, when the statement in question is statistical in nature, rather than an absolute. It often leads to misrepresentation and people talking past each other. For instance, it plays a pretty strong role in ongoing disagreements about gender roles, gender identity, etc. |
