Depends on what the service is. youtube-dl faces this issue but is some of the best software I have ever used.

That's some hefty praise, do you mind explaining why it's so great?

You give it a URL and it downloads the video on that page.
It's better when compared to ad/malware laden webpages that people unaware of youtube-dl use.
Keepvid was always perfectly usable while it was still going.
