Snapchat is a casual app, targeted at a completely different audience than the people Keybase targets (at least that's the impression I got so far) I don't think they're comparing themself to Snapchat; I think they're using a hypothetical situation that everyone can understand in order to explain the threats that an "exploding message" protects against; Snapchat is used merely because the scenario is easy to understand.
