The US is a federal republic with founding fathers who knew that democracy is mob rule. The electoral college exists so the biggest states cannot vote in their own best interests, leaving small states automatically losing because they have less people. California has the highest population state of 38 million people. Trump wanted to bring manufacturing jobs back to the Midwest.
