What is this doing on HN?

Blanchard's research and theories about transsexualism and "autogynephilia" have been widely discredited.

I recommend reading "Whipping Girl" for a solid takedown of his ideas.

In my personal and clinical experience, transgender identity has little to do with sexual fetish, although it may occasionally present in this way for a variety of complex reasons.

This paper seems to be an attempt to turn the author's transphobia into credible psychology and I hope anybody reading it can see through that.

The science of this particular area of human behaviour is still in its infancy. Proponents of the current dominant "transgender identity" paradigm have an enormous political interest in dissociating themselves clearly from anything that smacks of sexual fetishism, understandably so when the reactionary element in our culture is so quick to reach for the "don't let those perverts into our women's bathrooms" response. Perhaps once all the relevant political battles have been won, those dissidents who insist that evidence points to a much more varied and nuanced experience will be allowed to have a voice again. Ironic that those who love to wave the rainbow flag are not always open to the whole spectrum of human sexual experiences, especially when it doesn't suit their political programme.
