Like everything in life and medicine, it is all risk-benefit analysis. I'm underwhelmed by the absolute risk reduction for most of these findings. Most people get some sort of upper respiratory infection, is increasing URIs rate from say 65% to 70% clinically meaningful? Sure its statistically significant here given the large sample size, but I'm not sure it helps us know what will happen. But if a child is suffering now, and we have the chance to help, what should we do with this data? I'm definitely against unnecessary surgery, especially in children. I just don't think this pushes my definition of necessary very much. |
