housing cost, health insurance, and college tuition aren't counted in inflation. Economists and politicians can lie all they want but there's a reason people are angry enough to vote Trump or Bernie Sanders and it's because they can tell their standard of living is dropping. Generally, that's simply not true. There are infinite different measures of inflation and it's up to the synthesizer of the inflation metric to include or exclude things, but generally housing and medical care are part of the equation.
