I spent the first year doing manual testing hired as a dev, switched jobs and spent the next 4 years mostly fixing bugs in legacy C/C++, migrating build systems and upgrading compilers. Wrote 1 new feature which was mostly a hack on said legacy code. I would say most of my work is boring as hell, but the job pays well with decent benefits so I stick around. Slim pickins out here in South Florida. I've also given up on finding work that is not mind-numbing AND pays well.
